Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:
but a woman that feareth the Lord,
she shall be praised

Really Lord.!?

Cinda J. Catchings releases inspirational book, “Really Lord!?”

One Alcorn State University faculty member has released a narrative on how to fight against the forces of evil that conflict us regularly.

Cinda J. Catchings, who serves as a faculty member and director of the Didactic Program in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Alcorn, released her book titled, “Really Lord!?,” which provide readers with the opportunity to become aware of the power of faith and spirituality.

“It is my desire for my book to minister to those readers that may feel that the enemy has taken a strong hold of their lives,” said Catchings. “I want them to know that a higher power keeps us and will not leave us in a troubled state. We must have faith and connect with the higher power in ways we cannot see or imagine.”

With her new book, Catchings, who is also an evangelist, gives readers an outline of how serving a deity has helped improve her quality of life.

“Through my story, I want the reader to see how I have been able to benefit from the power, purpose and presence of the higher power that I serve. Through the process of writing the book, I have been able to see how my divine being has the ability to make a way out of no way and place people in your life to help you succeed.”

I returned home after graduation and my life started. It was good for a while. I couldn’t have imagined what would take place next. I felt the enemy wage war! I knew it, I felt the strong attacks of the enemy. I was a member of a church, but it was so different. I didn’t have a support system. The word was not meeting my spiritual need. My Tuskegee experience spoiled me, and now I realize the blessing in fellowship with a group of peers who desired the meat of the word.

My greatest realization was that all saved people really didn’t pray and talk about the bible all the time. I had no way of knowing what was to come. It definitely was not what I had expected. This was the start of my wilderness experience.

Well, first let me talk about the Wilderness. What is it? And why does it happen? The bible describes times of suffering, distrust, and isolation with the desert or wilderness. The wilderness is where water is scarce. Where the heat and the cold are without shade or protection, and where wild animals live. In a spiritual wilderness God seems far away, unfriendly, preoccupied, hardhearted, and faith feels doubtful or uncertain. The wilderness is a place where Satan resides. The wilderness is a place I didn’t want to be. The wilderness is where you realize you need the Lord.

I will say in the wilderness life was not easy; it was hard. I look back and now I can see the Lord was with me and he didn’t forsake me. But, it was something I had to go through. While I was there I could not feel the Lord; he seemed far away.

Today I write with a sincere spirit of gratitude and victory. Really Lord! I am overwhelmingly filled with humility that you chose me. I was not chosen because I am the model Christian or someone known in the ministry. I am a single mother with four children who loves the Lord. It is and has been my prayer that I am used by him to show the world he is still God. A mother and woman of God who knows the power of prayer, fasting and speaking the word of God. A woman who know his word is true and the enemy has no power over it. A woman of faith who trust in the Lord.

When I think of the Ozark Mountains it was first revealed to me that I was never alone. I saw the victory in my life. Although, the enemy has tried to take my life numerous time. No harm came to me. Although, I made mistakes and lived in a sinful state. God never left me and he said you shall live and not die…. This was a Really Lord, moment. I was loved. I was kept. I am learning to acknowledge him in all things knowing that my path will be directed by him. I realized as you are experiencing the daily activities of living you are not always able to see him. You are not always able to feel his presence. This experience showed me he was there; he never left me. It showed me he had angles watching over me; it showed me that he cared for me. The knowledge and revelations of the experience taught me to praise him in spite of and worship throughout the process.

Chapter 5

Woman to Woman

Can we all just get along?

Proverbs 18:24

A man (women) that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

True friendship is a rare attainment, and I would be crazy to even suggest that we should all be friends. However, I will say as we grow in the faith and knowledge of God our lifestyle should resemble that of his. We should begin to develop characteristics people will draw to. The Bible tells us to let our light shine in a manner that people will see Christ in us (Matthew 5:16). The day has come when we as women must eliminate those characteristics that yield separation, back biting, jealousy, and disrespect.

Jesus when asked which is the greatest commandment of the law replied we must love the Lord thy God with all our heart, soul and mind. That is the first and greatest. However, the second is similar Thy shall love thy neighbor as thyself (Matthew 22:36-40). We must daily seek to understand the character of Jesus and have it reflected in our lives. We must not live a life that is religious or of our own works, but instead that exemplifies the Love of God. It is because of our Love for him that we live and strive to live a life acceptable in his sight. He said If you love me keep my commandments (John 14:15). The Bible is always our guide, and as women of God, we must respect ourselves in a manner that flows into our respect for each other.

Today, it is crucial that we unite with the common goal of improving our relationships, marriages, family life and knowledge and understanding of the love of God. The world has convinced us that it is okay to practice sinful and disrespectful behavior. They are wrong!!!!! Jesus is our guide, and the Bible is our instructions. Remember this is not about perfection; Jesus was the only one who was perfect. He is now our advocate and our holy sacrifice. This is important because many husbands are leaving, our children are not learning Christian principles, many sons and daughters are in jail or dying at a young age, women are raped, abused, abandoned and/or hurting. It is time to take our lives and families back. It starts with a commitment to stand firm in the faith while encouraging others to do the same.
